Scan a Dynamic QR Code and See the Redirect

Four live QR codes. Scan them with your phone and see what an instant redirect, a smart rule and the free-plan pages look like.

A dynamic QR code does not contain the web address you end up on. It contains a short QRZY link. When someone scans it, our server looks up where that link points right now and sends the phone there. That lookup is the redirect, and it is why you can change a printed code after the fact.

The codes below are real QRZY codes, running through the same redirect engine as customer codes. Scan them and watch what happens. Each one lands on a Wikipedia article, so the destination is easy to recognise.

Paid plan

Instant redirect

go.qrzy.co/demodirect

What you will see

The QR code opens the Wikipedia article on QR codes straight away, with no page in between.

How it is set up

One destination, set on a paid plan. QRZY sends the phone there with a redirect and nothing else.

Paid plan

Different page per device

go.qrzy.co/demodevice

What you will see

On a phone you get the article on mobile phones. On a computer you get the article on desktop computers.

How it is set up

A device rule: phones go to one destination, everything else to another. Same code, same link.

Free plan

Countdown page

go.qrzy.co/451x33y5

What you will see

A QRZY page with a countdown. After 5 seconds you move on to the Wikipedia article on barcodes.

How it is set up

The free plan, interstitial mode. The countdown cannot be skipped.

Free plan

Branded top bar

go.qrzy.co/dtmd39aq

What you will see

The Wikipedia home page shown inside a frame with a QRZY bar on top.

How it is set up

The free plan, top bar mode. The destination has to allow being shown in a frame, so not every site works.

These are live demo codes. Every scan is counted in their analytics, like any other code, and they stay active.

Why the free plan shows a page first

On the free plan, a scan lands on a QRZY page before your destination: either a 5 second countdown or your destination inside a branded top bar. Paid plans skip it and redirect straight away. That is the only difference in the redirect itself. The paid plans start at Starter.

What a smart rule looks like

The device code above has one rule: if the visitor is on a phone, send them to one page, otherwise send them to another. Scan it with your phone, then open its link on a computer, and you land in two different places from the same code. QRZY also routes by time of day, day of week, date range, country, language, scan count and a random split. See how dynamic QR codes work.

Test a redirect yourself

  1. Scan with at least two phones, one iPhone and one Android.
  2. Scan from the distance and angle people will really use. See QR code size for print.
  3. Check that the page it opens is the one you meant.
  4. Change the destination in your dashboard, scan the same printed code again, and check the new page appears.

If a code does not scan, the usual causes are listed in why a QR code won't scan.
